Description

The Eckman 18-volt Lithium-Ion Hedge Trimmer allows you to trim the tops of high hedges effortlessly and safely without the use of a step ladder or dangling mains power lead. It can also convert quickly and easily into a number of other garden tools such as an extendable 6" Oregon chainsaw branch lopper, a telescopic swivel head grass trimmer (for lawn edges and long grass), a short reach 10" Oregon chainsaw, a 2-speed leaf blower, and now also a short-reach hedge and topiary trimmer.

The angle-adjustable hedge trimmer locks in 5 different cutting positions and provides an impressive reach of 5ft 10" (1.7m) but when fitted with the optional 90cm extension pole reach is extended to a massive 8ft 6" (2.6m) and its extra long 18” (46cm) reciprocating blade will power through stems over ½” in diameter.

It is powered by an 18-volt lithium-Ion battery meaning not only does it run for longer but is also incredibly lightweight (just 3.2kg / 7.7lbs inc. battery) making gardening that much easier, quicker, and more enjoyable.

Q - Why is my hedge trimmer missing the second handle?
A - The LHT01/2 manual refers to a Secondary handle which can be attached part way down the unit. The Secondary handle, numbered 5 on the diagram shown below, is only available if the customer has purchased the grass trimmer (optional). Customer's that have only purchased the hedge trimmer have to hold the unit using the handle (number 2) and the cushioned bar (number 3)

Q - How long does it take to charge the battery and how long does it last>
A - Approx. 4 hours battery charging time – the battery length it lasts is very variable depending on how hard it is made to work. fully charged, average usage time is:
LHT01: 15 mins
LHT02: 15 mins
LHT04: 25 mins

I was disappointed that I could not reach as high as I was expecting as it was too heavy for me without using the support strap, and the support strap restricted my reach.Also,during delivery, the oil had leaked from the plastic envelope onto the instructions for using the chain saw. Its design and construction is robust enough for normal home use and gives convenient access to high hedges especially with the extension pole. If there is a lot of hedge to cut it is worth having a second battery pack. My only quibble is that as the power in the battery pack declines, there is a tendency for the cutter to jam with branches that would have been cut through on a fully charged battery.

Very efficient hedge trimmer with a large "blade". Makes cutting straight edges easy. Would advise getting a second Li-ion battery otherwise you may run out of power on bigger jobs. Would have given 5 stars but the original unit developed cracks in the housing after a very short test. On ringing up I was told that they were aware of a manufacturing batch fault and would replace. They organised courier collection at their expense for a chosen day, which was good. Only problem was that it took almost three weeks for the replacement to arrive. Cautionary note: Unlike in the advertising pictures - remember to wear a safety hat and goggles!

Before using check the chain tension is correct then fully tighten the two screws. My tensioner screw fell out during first using, and I luckily heard it doing so. The tensioner screw should be the final one re-checked to ensure its security. A second battery is worth getting for current drain seems higher than for clipping.

I already have an extendable hedge cutter but the extra length with the extra extension enables me to cut a higher hedge without having to use a ladder - much safer although it is fairly heavy for me. For short bursts of use though it is fine. The edge trimmer is brilliant as I have some roughish grass which is difficult to access. Will use the leaf blower in autumn as I have a lot of trees and the one I have at the moment is far too big for me to use. However, operating the trigger mechanism caused the muscles in my right index finger to go stiff and the index and next finger to go blue with bruising. Very light and fairly robust battery. Fully chsrged in 3 to 4 hours from flat but I was using it with the Hedge Trimmer and the charge only lasted 40 minutes. Mind you, I was trimming conifers so there was a heavy drain on it. If I hadn't ordered this spare battery with the hedge trimmer kit, I would have been really frustrated.

Everything went together easily and worked first time. I have 150ft of 20ft high conifers to trim annually so was a bit aprehensive. However, using this in conjunction with my heavy duty petrol trimmer (for lower branches) worked like a dream. No more extension ladders, trims the top front line level and easily and with a spare battery pack I could use it continuously for over 90 mins, which I think is enough for one day with all the clearing up. I also have a petrol grass trimmer but both this and the petrol hedge trimmer are heavy bulky and unwieldy. This 18v trimmer is great for tidying up the lawn edges, very quick to assemble and easy to manoeuvre due to it's light weight. The pole extension is very quick and easy to attach so you can swop over the hedge trimmer lengths in seconds. I was able to trim conifer branches above my greenhouse for the first time in 5 years. I did try with a long reach petrol hedge cutter once but it was far too heavy to hold above the greenhouse glass for more that a minute. I haven't used the chainsaw yet. All in all fantastic value for money and it was delivered 4 days after ordering. Even if you own a petrol/mains machine, it's still worth purchasing this as a back up, especially if, like me, you have a lot of hedge/conifers to cut. Just use them together for maximum flexibility.

Very effective trimmer for a 8ft high hedge. Cut through some woody stems with ease but they were less than 1cm diameter. The cutting head and motor are fairly heavy so not recommended for very long jobs - break into 10 minute sessions.
