Product Information

Description

Having a loft can be a great place to store things you don’t need every day, but unless you can gain access easily and safely, utilising the space to the maximum can be a real chore or even potentially dangerous if you’re using a flimsy ladder or even a chair.

Manufactured from extremely durable, high quality anodised aluminium, the Eckman Loft Ladder really is a great solution. With a little DIY skill, installation of the ladder is extremely straightforward and can be fitted quickly and easily (no assembly of ladder is required), whilst its sprung concertina design means it can be used and retracted in a matter of seconds.  Having 10 steps provides a practical solution for the majority of ceiling heights (8’ 4’’ / 255cm) plus, each step is constructed and safety tested to hold a maximum weight of 150kg (23.5stone).

So, no more daredevil balancing acts or dusting off the old step ladder so it doesn’t spoil the carpet!

Once fitted, this ladder will provide years of service, which is why we’ve given it a 10-year guarantee.

Includes: FREE pull/push pole for pulling the ladder from the loft and replacing after use.

FAQs

Q: Can I download instructions for this product?
A: Yes, you can download a PDF copy of the instructions for this product by clicking here

Q: What does ‘anodised’ mean?
A:
The aluminium ladder is treated with a very tough coating which stops any oxidisation of the aluminium meaning nothing comes off on your hands and fingers and clothing whilst using the ladder

Q: Can I fit this ladder if my existing loft access is a simple push-up hatch ?
A:
Not without first changing your hatch to a door that swings down.  Most hardware (including hinges) is included with this ladder. We also recommend that it is far easier for two people to install the ladder than one.  Having said this, it is manageable for one person with the use of clamps

Q: I have no previous DIY experience or tools.  Will I be able to fit this ladder myself ?
A:
Probably not without the help of someone who is reasonably confident with DIY.
If in doubt, consult or hire a local tradesman. The job should not take longer than an hour, or maximum two if your existing hatch requires converting to a drop-down type

Q: How do you ‘pull’ the loft ladder down from the loft hatch?
A:
Supplied with the concertina Loft Ladder is a ‘pole hook’ that connects to the bottom of the ladder itself; all you need is a short pole to hook on to the ladder and pull it down to arms reach. It is very simple to extend to ground level! You may already have a pole with hook which you already use to open your loft hatch

Q: What hardware is not supplied with the ladder ?
A:
For safety, the backboard that comes attached to the ladder requires a suitably secure fixing either using long screws or preferably bolts and nuts.  It is recommended to bolt the backboard through a ceiling joist and as the distance / depth of the joist will vary from house to house, suitable bolts need to be purchased by yourself according to your personal conditions

Q: I have a drop down hatch door but the opening is rather small.  If I fit this ladder won’t it make it take up a lot of space and make it very difficult to fit the same size larger boxes through the opening as when I use a step ladder ?
A:
No.  The angle of the ladder can easily be adjusted so that it is almost vertical

Q: I see there is a maximum ceiling height for this ladder.  Is there a minimum?
A: In principal, there is no minimum ceiling height for which this ladder can be used as ladder rungs may be removed to suit. If it is your intention to remove rungs from this ladder we strongly recommend this is carried out by a qualified builder.
