MSB Verdict:
“Incredible build quality makes cutting through even compact soil like slicing butter. Wheels give much better manoeuverability for everyone.
A sturdy built-to-last tiller which easily holds its own against much higher priced models on the market.”
Mel Eden, MSB Garden Expert
The Eckman 2-stroke petrol cultivator makes easy work of preparing soil for vegetable gardens, flower beds or lawn laying - saving you from hours of back-breaking digging.
The Eckman petrol tiller has a powerful 42.7cc / 1.6HP low maintenance engine which helps break up and turn over soil up to 20cm deep by 25cm wide in a single pass, quickly and effortlessly.
The more passes you make over the ground with the Eckman cultivator the finer and more aerated the soil becomes and of course you can use it to mix in garden compost and feed. Being petrol-powered there’s no potentially dangerous trailing power leads or restriction on where you can work.
Fill-up the 1200ml tank for approx. 1 hour of continuous use - approximately £1.70 per hour at the current fuel prices

FAQs
Q: Can I download instructions for this product?
A: Yes, you can download a PDF copy of the instructions for this product by
clicking here
Q - Is there a customer service phone number I can call for assistance?
A - The Eckman Customer Service number is 0844 542 0100
Q - Is this machine self-propelled or do I have to push it?
A - In fact it’s self-propelled. When the revolving tines dig into the ground, this has the effect of pushing the machine forwards. Pulling back against the forwards motion will have the effect of the tines digging deeper into the ground.
Q - What do the wheels at the back do?
A - They have three purposes – to help transport the machine; to help stabilise the machine when tilling; to act as a tilling depth adjustment.
Q - You say this machine is low maintenance. Can you explain?
A - Apart from keeping the machine clean, checking all nuts and bolts are secure, and removing any debris that may have got stuck in between the tines ( specially when working in clay soils), the main thing is to keep the air filter clean as this is the most common cause of engine misfire and bad running if left to become dirty. Removing the air filter is simple and well explained in the operations manual. Once removed, there’s a small sponge filter inside and again, cleaning it only takes a moment or two and is explained in the manual. A check and clean if necessary after every 10 hours of use should be fine.
Q - Is any assembly involved before I can use the machine and will I need any special tools?
A - The tiller comes fully assembled with the exception of the handlebars and wheel assembly, both of which take just a few moments. No special tools are required.
Q - If for some reason I break one of the tines, can it be replaced?
A - Yes. Replacing the tines is quite straight forward and covered in the instructions. Tines should be replaced as a set of four so that the wear is even. They are available from Eckman Spares / Eckman Customer Services on 0871 590 5917.
Q - Where can I get replacement oil/grease?
A - Synthetic/Semi-Synthetic two stroke oil can be mixed with the fuel. The gearbox oil is EP90 gear oil and can be purchased from motor factors.
Q - How do I fold the item?
A - After loosening off hand tightening knobs, handle can be folded so that the machine can easily be put into the boot of a car.
Q - Can I convert this item to an electric start?
A - Unfortunately not as the crankshaft is different.
Q - The unit will not start/ The stop button will not work/ There are loose wires
A - Customers are calling in with loose wires or two sets of wires. The red and black wires from the spark plug should be connected to the 2 black wires from the handle where on/off switch and throttle are forming a circuit from the engine to the handle and back to the engine. The unit will not start unless this is correct.
Q - The engine is running but the tines aren't turning?
A - Please issue RMA and get the item returned for repair if in warranty. If out of warranty you will be required to purchase a new gear box - available upon request.
Q - The washers are missing
A - This is a misprint in the manual. There are no washers required.
Q - Machine fails to start or is intermittent
A - Starter handle mechanism may cause some problems. Please ensure directions in the instructions have been correctly followed.
Q - The manual refers to the gearbox oil as 5/W40. Is this a mistake?
A - Yes. This is a misprint in the manual. We recommend using 100ml of EP90.
Q - Tiller is cutting out, problems running or choke issues
A - The black cover for the choke may be different way around to the instruction manual. Please try starting it in the run position cold start and when warm switch to full choke for normal running or starting from warm.

| If you want a cultivator to prepare a big allottment for planting this is NOT the tool to buy, but if you are after a machine to cultivate between rows to clear weeds or to prepare seed beds or to mix in fertiliser this is a very good machine that is attractively priced. Because it is lightweight it does struggle a little on hard dried out soil but on moist ground (which we seem too have a lot of just lately) it works perfectly well. I have a large allottment and after the recent wet spell the weeds were thriving but I spent a couple of hours going between my rows of veg and it's a weed free zone now. To do such a large area with a hoe would have taken a couple of days. |

| Heated the gearbox oil in the microwave which made it very easy to pour into the gearbox housing. I found that you need to dig the soil to begin with before using the machine. However, when using the machine it isn't a brute to control - in fact very easy. |

| Really easy to build up and to use. instructions were fairly adequate. Priming the first fuel through was a litle frustrating....seemed to take some time. 15 - 20 tugs on the starter and I was away. The machine seemed to throw up quite a bit of soil but overall the whole thing was very good for the price. Would recommend to friends. |

| PRODUCT: | |
| Excellent product for the money really breaks down soil well. Just a few little niggles with instructions, as in previous review does not tell you where the 2 loose wire go also with my machine the 2 pipes from the fuel bottle were not connected to the engine which was not noticed untill filled with petrol which leaked everywhere. Alos no washers for handlebar knobs and no lock washers for wheels. Lastly had to buy longer bolts for handlebars as with supplied bolts handle would not drop unless knobs were completely removed. |

| PRODUCT: | |
An excellant product which does the job really well. My only criticisms are with the instructions which do not tell you what to do with the two loose wires and also the fact that the choke works opposite to what you are told. [T2 Direct: The labels for the choke have now been amended so that they read right. Apologies for the confusion.] |

| A graet little machine for the small/medium garden. My only critisism would be of the wheels for moving it around. They could give more clearance in order that the tynes dont catch the floor. |

| PRODUCT: | |
| Nice and light, easy to start and does the job, but noisy and vibrates a bit. I will need my motorbike gloves and ear plugs. The neighbours will just have to get used to it. (The manual says 105 dB(A) and claims that's "low noise"!!!) |

| the gearbox oil takes ages to pour due to its density, the two disconnected throttle wires are are not shown in the user manual, the two connectors for the above had slipped inside the the throttle sleeve making it awkward to locate ,the tines only rotate when the throttle lever is fully operated, the product is still good value for the cost |

READ PREVIOUS REVIEWS WHICH STATED THAT LABEL FOR CHOKE WAS WRONG WAY ROUND.THIS IS STILL THE CASE AND ALL IT NEEDS IS FOR THE ADHESIVE LABEL TO BE TURNED ROUND SO WHY NOT PUT THE LABEL THE RIGHT WAY ROUND DURING MANUFACTURE. | I have pit it together to make sure it works and tried it out on a small piece of ground. The ground was well trodden and I found it easy to handle for a woman and able to work my ground by going out it a couple of times. The reason why it only had 4 stars is because the choke switch is the opposite way to the indications. |

This is a tiller not a cultivator and is excellent on pre-prepared ground which is what it is designed for. Used in this way it is as good as anything on the market for the job. This is used on allotments and is expected to do a lot of work. |

| For the price of the Cultivator and not heard of Eckman before was a little worried about its consruction for the price. NO NEED TO HAVE WORRIED. When it came was very impressewd with the construction and quality of the cultivator. The only problem was with cofussion on the choke markings when lever is in Off postion it is acutually ON, When in ON postion it accutally Off. |

Value for money cultivator, that came with it's own tools to service it. It's easy to use, with easy to follow instructions, well package, and prompt delivery. IT DOES THE JOB |

| Good product and good value but had missing washers for the handle and wheel nuts. This causes the wheel assembly to move up and down during use. I would appreciate if someone could send me a spare set. |
