Description

Standing on ladders with a chainsaw in hand is probably not the best of ideas. You need to be standing on solid ground in order to cut through branches safely and effectively. The problem is most big branches which require a chainsaw to cut through them are usually high up and out of reach.

The Eckman long-reach telescopic chainsaw extends from 1.9m (6'3”) to a massive 2.9m (9'6”) allowing you to cut through most big branches without ever needing to climb a ladder making it far safer than using a ‘normal’ chainsaw.

A high quality Oregon bar and chain makes light work of 8inch (20cm) diameter branches and the specially designed padded hip brace, fully adjustable shoulder strap and thick padded handle ensure this lightweight (4.9kg) extendable chainsaw lopper from Eckman is a breeze to use.

We even include CE approved safety googles free of charge.

Special Offer: Buy the Eckman long-reach telescopic chainsaw and Eckman 2-in-1 7ft Long & Standard-Reach Hedge Trimmer for just £169.90, saving an extra £10.

FAQs

Q: Can I download instructions for this product?
A: Yes, you can download a PDF copy of the instructions for this product by clicking here

Q: Is there a customer service phone number I can call for assistance?
A:
The Eckman Customer Service number is 0871 590 5911

Q: Is there any assembly required before I can use the machine?
A:
You’ll need to fit the Oregon Bar and Cutting Chain. Fitting the bar and chain should not take more than a couple of minutes and no special tools are required. The two mains things to ensure are; the chain is fitted with the cutters going in
the correct direction and; the chain is properly adjusted so it is neither too tight nor too loose. Both are comprehensively covered in the instruction manual with easy to follow pictures. A screwdriver is also provided for final tension adjustment.
The only other thing you will need to fit is the shoulder strap.

Q: What oil do I need and where can I buy it? What’s it for?
A:
You’ll need to purchase a high grade oil specially designed for chainsaws. You can obtain this from all good DIY stores, garden machinery retailers or garden centres that also sell chainsaws. If you should decide to use any other kind of oil and you damage the machine (highly likely with continued operation), this will invalidate your guarantee. With the motor at full speed, the cutting chain operates at 11 metres per second. The friction between the chain and the bar creates extreme heat. The oil is needed to keep the chain properly lubricated and the heat to a minimum.

Q: How often will I need to check the chain tension?
A:
A new chain will stretch so we suggest you re-check the tension after using for 10 minutes. If your first time use is considerably longer than this, re-check after every 10 minutes. After running for an hour or so, it is likely the chain has stretched to its maximum so we suggest in future you re-check the tension before and at the end of each use.

Q: How often will I need to check the oil level?
A:
We can’t say exactly as this depends on how fast the engine is running. The faster the chain runs, the more oil will be used. This is automatically adjusted. The oil reservoir has a see-through window so it’s easy to keep an eye on the level when you are working.

Q: What is “kick-back” and how can I avoid it?
A:
Kick-back happens when the tip or nose of the chain comes into contact with the wood and is specially noticeable if you are either not holding the machine correctly, or firmly enough. With experience, you can generally avoid kick-back even when cutting with the nose. Inexperienced users should avoid the nose coming into contact with the branch being cut and the instructions give good advice as to the correct method in cutting tree limbs.

Q: Do I need to wear a hard hat when working?
A:
Just to be on the safe side, we highly recommend the use of wearing good protective clothing whilst using garden machinery. Whilst cutting high branches, if there is any possibility of the branch you are cutting falling onto your head, then it’s just sensible and good practice to wear a hard hat. Just use your common sense and definitely wear  the safety goggles provided to avoid sawdust getting into your eyes when cutting branches that are overhead.

Q: When my chain becomes blunt, can it be sharpened?
A:
Yes. It’s a good idea to buy a simple chainsaw file and use it every time you use the saw. This should cost less than £5 from any good DIY store and used correctly, will keep your chain in top condition. A sharp chain means less effort and less effort means safer working. Alternatively, take the chain to any good garden machinery retailer and they will sharpen it for you.

Q: What is the padded hip brace for?
A:
Instead of simply holding the branch lopper with both hands, in conjunction with the shoulder strap, if you rest the padded brace on your hip at the same time, your hip and back will take most of the weight of the machine and make pruning much less tiring.

Absolutely brilliant, cuts through branches very easily. I used it for 8 hours over a weekend, used some oil and adjusted the chain, but very easy to do.

A bit heavy on full stretch, just use the harness.

PRODUCT: StarStarStarStar
A very good product - sturdy construction and easily tackles tall branches up to 6/7 inches thick. Easy to use, although the picture instructions could be a little clearer. Certainly cheaper than getting in the professionals. Make sure you buy the chain saw oil though .. not included.
Ian Pearce, Rickmansworth

A superb tool for the money - easy to assemble and use. Cuts really well and pole is easy to extend. Have saved a fortune on a tree surgeon to prune my garden trees! Absolutely delighted with it.

PRODUCT: StarStarStarStar
Chainsaw was as good as you stated !!!
Body strap needs to be longer to fit round fuller figures and the instruction booklet drawings were of little use but the saw was A1.

PRODUCT: StarStarStarStarStar
It is an excellent product doing all it claims. My ownly reservation would be that it is very top heavy and so needs some strength to hold as you are preparing to use it. Once in place with strap on, and properly adjusted, it is fine.
